The adoption pathway of NFTs

"The next big thing always starts out being dismissed as a toy". 🧸

Over the years, we have seen this playing out repeatedly with innovation. So much innovation starts as a toy. These new creations are always initially dismissed by many, while the crazy ones push them forward, as somehow they see the future others can't see.

Recently I saw this image by Punk#6529 that so clearly poses this for Non-Fungible Tokens and their potential.

NFTs, as a digital primitives, are about digital ownership, interoperability, and composability. But yes, we're still on a level where we're playing with them. After all, it was Collectibles, Art & Gaming that made them a little mainstream.

All playful experiences. But seeing this roadmap, we can see that there is so much more untapped potential to create a world where people can own and exchange their digital assets without borders and interact with products and services entirely online and peer-to-peer. I love this! 💫

And by the way... I'm not saying NFTs will be "the next big thing". I just happen to be more actively exposed to them! The next big thing will be when a composition of several rising technologies finally starts clicking with each other.

I'm bullish on other technologies that are still very dismissed and confused with toys and playful environments: Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and the Metaverse!

These fields of knowledge are cutting-edge and somehow very siloed from each other. But slowly, we're starting to connect the dots and see the possibilities of how it can fit together to build new experiences merging the digital & real worlds. These new applications address hard-to-solve problems and change how we connect as a society.

We are actually on a technological plateau since the iPhone went mainstream. But in the upcoming decade, we will likely see the extraordinary rise of new applications of technologies that will bring us to the same leap in the lifestyle we saw with personal computers, the internet, and mobile apps.

How can you not be excited? 🤩🔥🚀
